In my blog list you may notice an addition. Alan November is an amazing educator with a wealth of technology ideas. His latest, which brings me to post him here is the concept of the digital farm, and how he believes we ought to be asking students to contribute to our digital landscape in that same way they contributed to family farming through their daily chores and other tasks back in the day.
What really caught my attention about this digital farm is an article by Winnepeg teacher Darren Kuropatwa who describe the tasks or chores he has students particiapte in during his calculus class. Designated official scribes and researchers seem pretty simple, but the concept of putting students in charge of their learning, and contributing to classroom success is hard to argue with.
Read his description and the tasks of the daily official scribes and see if using these in our classrooms, could not only increase student engagement and involvement, but also increase access to classroom notes and study material without adding to teacher workload.
